Your first 50 french verbs

This page is a good starting point, where you will find useful verbs. I’ve added the number of the verb group, that you may need for conjugation, examples with je (I) at the positive and negative forms, and a sentence where the verb is used. The sentences are simple and at the present time.

The first ten verbs

dire	to say	3ème groupe	je dis, je ne dis pas	Ils disent la vérité.	They say the truth.
pouvoir	to can	3ème groupe	je peux, je ne peux pas	Je peux partir plus tard.	I can leave later.
aller	to go	3ème groupe	je vais, je ne vais pas	Tu vas à la plage.	You go to the beach.
voir	to see	3ème groupe	je vois, je ne vois pas	Nous voyons une erreur.	We see a mistake.
savoir	to know	3ème groupe	je sais, je ne sais pas	Vous savez où est la clé.	You know where is the key.
vouloir	to want	3ème groupe	je veux, je ne veux pas	Les enfants veulent un dessert.	The children want a dessert.

trouver	to find	1er groupe	je trouve, je ne trouve pas	Le chien trouve un jouet.	The dog finds a toy.
donner	to give	1er groupe	je donne, je ne donne pas	Nous donnons une idée au groupe.	We give an idea to the group.
prendre	to take	3ème groupe	je prends, je ne prends pas	Ils prennent leurs sacs.	They take their bags.
parler	to speak	1er groupe	je parle, je ne parle pas	Vous parlez avec la présidente.	You (plural or polite) speak with the president (feminine).
aimer	to love	1er groupe	j’aime, je n’aime pas	Mes amis aiment ce gâteau.	My friends love this cake.
mettre	to put	3ème groupe	je mets, je ne mets pas	Je mets le plat au four.	I put the dish in the oven.
